  Delhi

The Delhi Branch of the Indian Cancer Society continues to undertake cancer awareness programmes with the help of Video Cassettes and Cancer Awareness Talks. Some NGOs also participate actively in the Cancer Awareness Programmes especially amongst the weaker sections of the society. The Cancer Awareness Programme received a boost when the Indian Express published a feature on Detection services in March 1999. The STAR TV featured the Babar Road Detection Centre in their Breakfast programme. The impact of these print and electronic media coverages has been tremendous. The number of people availing this facility for cancer check ups has since increased.

The Cancer Detection Programme continues to progress satisfactorily. Efforts through various media are on to make the people aware of the importance of cancer check ups. Cancer check-ups are held on a regular basis and the detected cases are given guidance for further investigations and treatment.

The Mobile Van continues to visit various locations in and around Delhi and organize check ups.

The cancer sahayog volunteers visit 4 hospitals- AIIMS, Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute & Research Centre, IRCH and the Army Research & Referral Hospital. While emotional support and information remains the primary objectives of the cancer sahayog, special attention is paid to Children suffering from cancer and the "Breast Clinic" of AIIMS. In these two areas, apart from emotional support, patients are adopted with a view to help meet the cost of medicines.

Sweets are also distributed to children. Cancer Sahayog organised a Seminar on 20th September, 1998 on "Body, Mind & Soul in Cancer". The participants included practitioners of Yoga, Ayurveda and also from the Chinmaya Mission.
