The Karnataka Branch continues to provide cancer detection and treatment services. A full fledged Hospice building "KARUNASHRAYA" was inaugurated on April 11, 1999. The first batch of patients was admitted on May 1, 1999 in the hospice.

In the HOME CARE SERVICE, many patients are looked after and cared for. About 73% of the patients come from the weaker sections of the society.

In cooperation with the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International, a Palliative care centre by name "ROTARY INDIRANAGAR-BHT CENTRE FOR PALLIATIVE CARE EDUCATION" is being established. The main functions of this centre is to conduct workshops, seminars, talks in Medical & Nursing colleges, Medical Associations and organizing training courses for doctors, nurses, counselors, social workers and patients themselves and their families.

The Corporate Citizenship Panel of the Confederations of Indian Industry, Karnataka Branch arranged a " Walkathon" on 8th November 1998 for raising funds for the "KARUNASHRAYA".

A "Counselling Skills Workshop" conducted by Dr. Peter Maquire, an eminent Psychiatrist from Cancer Research Group; Manchester (UK) was arranged on 15th May 1998 by the Bangalore Hospice Trust. Mr. Kishore Rao visited the UK in May 1998 and had very useful interaction with two Centres, Dame Cicely Saunders and the Hospice Information Service.

Dr. S.N. Simha visited the UK and attended an intensive training programme on " Training of Trainers" in Manchester.
