Cancer Cure

The Indian Cancer Society-Cancer Cure Fund is a flagship project which provides financial aid for treatment to underprivileged cancer patients. Many cancers are treatable, if detected early and treated in time. However, many cancer patients in India are not able to afford the treatment costs and therefore do not survive the disease. This project has transformed the lives of over thousands of patients across the country, many of whom have completed their treatment and returned to a productive life once again. This program is implemented at a pan India level and we are pleased to report that 45% of the beneficiaries are between 16-45 yrs. of age.

This project is a unique, first of its kind initiative in collaboration with HDFC AMC Ltd. In February 2011, HDFC AMC launched a Debt Mutual fund which gave the investors an option to donate 50% or 100% of their dividend income to Indian Cancer Society to fund the treatment cost for cancer patients. ICS is grateful to each of the 5000 investors who have donated their income to the Cancer Cure Fund. ICS appreciates the continued support of HDFC AMC which has helped save thousands of precious lives.

Our Stakeholders Speak

  • Dr S Banavali

With the newer modalities of treatment, the outcome of many non-metastatic cancers has now improved and we can expect more than half of these patients to survive. However, this improved outcome comes at a cost which is beyond the reach of many patients in India. Because of timely help from ICS CCF, thousands of patients across India could undergo treatment with dignity and are now cured of their disease. Thank you, ICS, for making this possible.

Dr S Banavali, MD, Director, Academics & Prof, Head Medical Oncology - Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai

  • Dr Tushar Vora

The evolution of CCF into a sustainable and successful source of financial help for cancer patients from all over the country is exemplary. The partnership between the treating hospitals and the funding sources works on the principles of trust and due diligence. With the potential of a tremendous impact on the healthcare sector of India, consolidation and expansion of the scheme is extremely essential.

Dr Tushar Vora, MD (Pediatrics), Prof Medical Oncology, Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai

  • Dr Ravi Kannan

It is a pleasure to work with ICS CC. In a remote place like Cachar, our efforts to treat cancer patients is made worth the while on account of the support we get from ICS. The team at ICS is committed and makes us feel part of a much larger mission. They often nudge us to apply for more patients, submit reports on time, submit our claims and utilisation reports on time....all without any harassment or offence....purely to ensure that help reaches as many patients as possible. Cachar Hospital, Assam along wtih ICS has supported around 155 cancer patients so far.

Dr Ravi Kannan, Director Cachar Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, Assam

  • Dr Sunil Khetrapal

Our hospital has been associated with ICS CCF for the last five years. This is a very useful scheme in favour of underprivileged patients (particularly pediatrics) undergoing treatment for various types of cancers.

We have been working jointly with ICS to be able to support about 150 children with cancer and many of these patients have completed their treatment and are leading normal lives. The sympathetic help by ICS for needy cancer patients is noteworthy and is much appreciated by us.

Dr Sunil Khetrapal, COO & MS Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute New Delhi

  • Dr. Devi Shetty

I am very excited to work with Indian Cancer Society to scale up the operations and reach out to millions of deserving patients. We have to look at how to downstage cancer by detecting it early using technology. Technology is the best way to reduce the cost and reach out to millions. Look forward to work with you and make this world a better place to live in."

Dr. Devi Shetty, Chairman and Founder Mazumdar Shaw Cancer Centre - Bangalore

  • Dr. V.Shanta

Cancer Institute (W.I.A) Chennai, is privileged to be associated with Indian Cancer Society (ICS). Over the last 6 decades we have strived hard to provide the state of art treatment to the underprivileged without any social or economic divide. This has been made easier by the generosity of ICS whose funding has helped us to fulfill the needs of many patients. Over the last 3 years, the financial assistance from ICS is Rs.2.7 Crores which has supported 120 patients. This funding has been used for providing bone marrow transplantation, limb salvage surgery, many major surgeries, radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

The unique feature of the funding from ICS is the promptness with which the funds are released. This has helped us in treating patients without delay. We are proud to say that we have not refused “state of art treatment” to any of the patients who have come seeking help.

Dr. V.Shanta, Chairman Cancer Institute, Adyar

  • Dr. Raju Titus Chacko

The Christian Medical College, Vellore has been striving to provide excellent, affordable care to patients who come from all over the country. Patients who come from the poorer and vulnerable strata of society are preferentially afforded the best possible treatment. Partnering with the Indian Cancer Society in providing funding for curable cancers has tremendously increased the number of such patients receiving treatment. They go home with a satisfied smile and much gratitude, knowing that they have beaten the dreaded disease and have been looked after in the best way possible. Thank you ICS and all your donor funding partners for boosting our ability to deliver such treatments.

Dr. Raju Titus Chacko, Professor Medical Oncology, Christian Medical College, Vellore

  • Dr (Prof) R A Badwe

Indian Cancer Society’s Cancer Cure Fund is one of the most innovative ideas to help & support cancer patients in India. It will not be an exaggeration, if I say this is quite innovative globally, that investors would put in funds and this fund will be utilized for poor patients and they would get some tax benefits out of that. What is unique about this fund is that it has a shortest turnaround time. Unless the funds are available the treatment cannot begin and these funds are immediately made available by Indian Cancer Society’s Cancer Cure Fund. This has reduced abandonment of treatment by more than 50% of patients.

Dr (Prof) R A Badwe (Hospital Partner) Director, Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai

  • Mrs. Daya N Pal

I personally feel very blessed to be associated with SSCF and ICS, both of who are doing such exemplary service for mankind.

Arun Kurkure Initiation & Treatment Fund

(AKITF)

This project was launched in April 2014 in Mumbai to support underprivileged cancer patients towards initial diagnostic tests and funding for emergency treatment, without any loss of time.

Many patients come to a cancer hospital, but are unable to do the diagnostic tests due to lack of funds. They go back home and return to the hospital when the cancer is in an advanced stage, making treatment difficult.

This immediate assistance is a big help to patients, it reduces the drop rate of patients and allows them to start treatment giving them time to look for other sources of assistance.

The Project was re-launched on 4th Feb 2019 at our empanelled hospitals.
